Sinead Morrissey imageSinéad Morrissey was born in Portadown. She started writing poetry at an early age and was the youngest ever winner of The Patrick Kavanagh Award in 1990. She has produced four collections: There Was Fire in Vancouver (1996), Between Here and There (2002), The State of the Prisons (2005) and Through the Square Window (2009), all of which are published by Carcanet Press. She has won numerous awards including an Eric Gregory Award, the Michael Hartnett Poetry Prize and the Irish Times Poetry Prize. Sinéad has been shortlisted for the prestigious TS Eliot prize a number of times. She has lived in Germany, Japan and New Zealand and now lectures in creative writing at the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry at Queen’s.
